DeepBlack Cleanse is a black gel face wash. You wet your face, work a small amount into a lather, rinse — and the day is off your skin: sweat, sunscreen, city grime, light makeup. Activated charcoal does the pulling, aloe vera and vegetable glycerin keep the skin from feeling stripped afterwards. That's the whole idea.

We made it because most charcoal washes are either harsh foaming detergents that leave your face tight, or they are so mild that they don't actually remove anything. This one sits in the middle on purpose: a gentle coconut-derived cleansing base, no sulfates, no parabens, no mineral oil — and a formula short enough to read on the bottle.

Why charcoal

Activated charcoal is carbon that has been treated to become extremely porous — a single gram has a surface area of hundreds of square meters. In a cleanser it works as a physical "sponge" that binds oil and dirt while you massage it in, and is then rinsed away with everything it picked up. It is also what makes the gel black. It does not stain skin or towels.

What is actually inside — and why

Organic Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice — The first ingredient, which means the base of the gel is aloe rather than plain water. Aloe is the classic soothing plant juice, used on skin for thousands of years.

Vegetable glycerin — A humectant: it draws moisture into the upper skin layer, which is why the skin feels comfortable and not tight after rinsing.

Coconut oil ethers & cocamidopropyl betaine — The cleansing agents. Both are derived from coconut and belong to the mild, sulfate-free class of surfactants. They make the lather and lift oil and dirt.

Guar gum — A plant thickener from the guar bean. It gives the gel its body.

Activated charcoal — The namesake. Binds impurities and gives the gel its deep black color.

Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) leaf oil — The fresh, slightly medicinal scent you notice. Tea tree is one of the most-used essential oils in facial cleansers for oily and combination skin.

Tocopherol (vitamin E) — An antioxidant that also helps keep the plant oils in the formula fresh.

Ethylhexylglycerin & phenoxyethanol — The preservative system. A water-based product without preservatives would grow bacteria within weeks; these two are the standard gentle combination in clean-formulated skincare.

Who is it for?

Anyone with normal, oily or combination skin who wants a daily cleanser that actually cleans and doesn't dry the face out — men included; the scent is tea tree, not perfume. Not ideal if your skin reacts to essential oils. If you have very dry or sensitive skin, patch-test on the jawline first.

How to use

Wet skin with warm water. Massage a small amount of gel onto the face, working into a lather. Rinse well. Use morning and/or evening. Follow with your usual moisturizer.

FAQ

Will it dry out my skin?

It is built not to: aloe base, glycerin, and sulfate-free cleansing agents. If you wash twice a day and your skin feels tight, go down to once a day.

Does it remove makeup?

Light, everyday makeup and sunscreen — yes. For waterproof mascara or heavy makeup, use an oil or balm cleanser first.

Does the black gel stain?

No. It rinses clean from skin, sinks and towels.

How long does 2 oz last?

A pea-sized amount is enough per wash, so roughly 4–6 weeks with daily use.
