DeepSea Omega-3 is a plain, honest fish oil: one softgel holds 1,000 mg of fish oil concentrate from sardines and anchovies, standardized to 180 mg of EPA and 120 mg of DHA. One bottle has 100 softgels, so at one a day it lasts more than three months — at two a day, fifty days.

We did not add anything you would have to google. No flavor coating, no extra blends, no "proprietary marine complex". The softgel shell is gelatin, glycerin and water, plus a little vitamin E to keep the oil fresh. That's the whole ingredient list.

Why sardines and anchovies

Small, short-lived fish such as sardines and anchovies sit low in the food chain, so they naturally accumulate far less mercury and other heavy metals than big predatory fish. That is why most quality fish oils are made from them — and why the heavy-metal results on our certificate of analysis sit well below the reporting thresholds (lead 0.008 mcg per softgel).

What is actually inside — and why

Fish oil concentrate (1,000 mg) — Oil pressed from wild-caught sardines and anchovies and concentrated so that a single softgel carries a meaningful amount of the two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids below. The remaining fat is the natural oil of the fish.

EPA — eicosapentaenoic acid (180 mg) — One of the two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids the body cannot make efficiently on its own. It occurs in cold-water fish and is the omega-3 that most fish-oil research focuses on alongside DHA.

DHA — docosahexaenoic acid (120 mg) — The second long-chain omega-3. DHA is a structural fat: it is found in high concentrations in the brain and the retina, which is why it is the omega-3 most people have heard of.

Vitamin E — Added in a small amount as a natural antioxidant so the oil does not oxidize in the bottle. Fresh fish oil should not taste or smell rancid; vitamin E is the standard way to keep it that way.

Gelatin softgel (gelatin, glycerin, water) — The classic softgel shell. It is animal-derived, so this product is not vegetarian; it contains no gluten, dairy, soy or artificial colors.

FAQ

How many should I take?

One softgel daily with a meal. If you want a higher intake, take two — one with breakfast, one with dinner. Taking fish oil with food also reduces the chance of fishy burps.

Is it molecularly distilled or tested for mercury?

Every lot is tested by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited third-party laboratory, including arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury by ICP-MS and full microbiology. The certificate of analysis is available on request.

Why not a "triple strength" formula?

Higher-concentration oils are more processed and more expensive per softgel. 300 mg EPA+DHA per softgel is the standard dose most people are actually looking for, and the 100-count bottle keeps the price per day low. If you want more, take two.

Does it taste fishy?

The softgel is swallowed whole and the oil is stabilized with vitamin E, so there is no fishy taste. Store it cool and closed and it stays that way.

Is it vegetarian?

No — it is real fish oil in a gelatin softgel.
